New at the Zoo

Recent renovations to update the visitor facilities at Billabong Zoo included a transformation of the playground into an inclusive playspace. Billabong Zoo caters to a diverse clientele, ranging from occasional visitors to families with children of various ages and abilities, as well as sizable school groups. Seeking inclusivity and a captivating experience for all, Billabong aimed to create a “wow factor” playground that appeals to everyone.

A “wow-er” tower

After careful consideration, the team at Billabong Zoo opted for a giant, inclusive tower structure. The tower is part of Proludic’s Adventure range and has been customised with play features and graphics to provide a fun playful environment and complement the site features. Surrounded by trees and greenery, children will feel like jungle animals as they climb the tower up, up, up into the canopy.

Fun features

Let’s have a closer look at the play features at Billabong Zoo playground. The tower has two slides which are suited to different age groups of children. One big swirly spiral slide for older thrill seekers, and a smaller slide to ease the littlest adventurers into fun.

A wide staircase with enclosed side panels enables children to safely access the tower, with room for a supportive carer, when needed. The excitement of climbing up the staircase and reaching the top of the tower is a real thrill!

Along the way, multiple play panels offer fine motor skills development. The different play panels foster analytical thinking, hand-eye coordination, and cognitive stimulation.

A little table and seats nestled under the tower serves as a rest area and invites children to create imaginative role play games. What’s for lunch today? Turn the play panel wheel to explore!

About Billabong Zoo

Billabong Zoo, established in 1986, initially focused on breeding koalas and offering hand-feeding experiences with wallabies and kangaroos. In 2003, Mark and Danena Stone took over. They injected their extensive experience and passion into expanding the zoo’s offerings while prioritising animal welfare and visitor enjoyment. The zoo, family-run and operated, boasts a diverse range of Australian and exotic animals.

Next time you are zooming up the Pacific Highway, make sure to visit this wonderful zoo and check out the playground.
