The fun and inclusive playspace at Memorial Park pays tribute to the Kurrajong area – its natural beauty, its local animals and culture, its links to the local apple orchards and historic connection to the Pansy railway line.
Designed in line with the NSW Government’s “Everyone Can Play” Guidelines, the playground features play equipment that delights both younger and older children.
Design solution
Our design department worked creatively with the existing sloped site to create a more interesting expanded play area. Added sandstone blocks create beautiful new tiered retaining walls throughout the enlarged playground.
The upper tiered play area is designed for younger children. The Proludic play equipment includes our inclusive Locomotive and Cover Wagon, a Kanopé Multiplay, Accessible Carousel, Apple Springer, a Playhouse provided with custom graphics reflecting the ‘Kurrajong Station – Pansy railway line’, a custom Tunnel Slide, sand play and interactive play panels.
The lower tiered play area is designed for older children and features our rocking and rotating Hip Hop and Rodeoboard which both guarantee a dynamic, thrilling and challenging experience!
Children can also meet and play with the beautiful native animal sculptures we included in the playground!
A brief history
The area has a long history and still has a connection to growing fruit trees in the area with Bilpin well known for its Apples that is west of Kurrajong.
The area is also known for a large koala population and this continues to be a connection to the place and the natural environment.
The brief was to design and construct a new playspace that encompasses the local cultural and natural beauty that surrounds the area, and represents the various aspects of the Kurrajong area.
