As part of the City of Rockingham’s 2017/2018 playground renewal program, Singleton Foreshore Playground has been upgraded to be inclusive and accessible. The brief for this playground was to provide an accessible multi-age combination unit, an accessible slide, an accessible swing and tactile elements.
This playground features equipment that offers challenging, sensory and social play oppotunities for children of all abilities. The inclusive and accessible Diabolo Multiplay unit features a wide variety of playful elements for younger children including climbing, balancing, sliding and manipulative play activities. Accessibility for children with reduced motor skills is encouraged by the presence of a ground transfer platform with large handles, a wide and secure stairway and a double slide. There is also plenty of room for carers to assist.
The metal Pod Swing with its large and comfortable seat offers a supportive surface for children with disability and enables easy wheelchair transfer. The large pod allows several children (or child with accompanying adult) to swing together. The Pod Swing combines motor coordination and sensory stimulation with an extra load of fun for everyone!
The installation of accessible rubber surfacing allows for easy access to the play equipment for those with motor impairments.
